I have been meaning to email you but sadly never got around to it!
We had a lovely holiday at Villa Eleni, where everything was perfect for us again. Naomi was very efficient and pleasant. The sun shone throughout, with max temperature according to the hire car reaching 39 one day. The pool came to our rescue and we benefited from the air con at night. The only part that did not go according to plan was that a wildfire prevented our beach trip to Triopetra on our last day!
We enjoyed the relaxation and the warmth which we now sadly miss as we attempt to downsize our house and move next month.

leider ist unser Urlaub schon vorbei und wir sind wieder zu Hause angekommen.
Wir haben den Aufenthalt in der Villa Eleni sehr genossen, haben Ruhe, Kraft und Wärme getankt.
Das Haus liegt traumhaft idyllisch, mit einem traumhaften Blick auf das Meer und auf die Landschaft.
Es ist praktisch, zweckmäßig und geschmackvoll eingerichtet, so dass es uns an nichts mangelte.
Die Abgeschiedenheit und Individualität haben wir gesucht und tatsächlich gefunden. An zwei Tagen war der Wind etwas kräftiger, ansonsten hat uns auch das Wetter und insbesondere die Sonne verwöhnt.
Die vorab zugesandten Hinweise haben uns sehr geholfen und auch die im Haus ausgelegten Mappen mit den Gästeinformationen sind gut nutzbar und sehr informativ.
So sind wir auch an einigen Abenden in Onars Taverne eingekehrt. Wir haben u.a. auch einen Ausflug nach Agiofarango unternommen und in der Schlucht die kleine Kirche vom Foto im Treppenhaus erkannt. Wir sind gut erholt und sehr zufrieden.
Vielen herzlichen Dank für Ihre gute Vorbereitung, Ihre freundliche Unterstützung und für das schöne Ferienhaus.
Es ist das beste Objekt, dass wir je bewohnen durften!

Good evening Sally,
I wanted to thank you for our wonderful stay at your villa. It was
absolutely marvelous. Everything you can possibly need during a holiday
stay, was available. I've enjoyed the perfect running aircoolers. Absolutely
perfect, this is often a problem in rental villas.
We had some water-pump problems the first couple of days. George did a
wonderful job, after 3 days of difficult-to no water delivery, the problem
was solved.
Yesterday, we had a lovely dinner at Madame Hortense. Indeel very nice food
and lovely people (Raphaëlle, just as our daughter and the chef came to meet
us). Also a very nice souvenir was the invitation by one of your acquaintances to
a lovely concert of Loudovikos ton Aegion in Ag Gallini. (I think his name
was Manolis), Well, we have enjoyed the whole concert as well as the attention.
I bought 2 cd's of Loudovikos which will bring me back to the concert, Ag
Galini, the attention and the fantastic holiday we spent.
I will surely advise my friends to go to Crete, more specific to Ag. Gallini
and recommend Villa Eleni.

Just a note to say what a wonderful time we had at the villa. The views were beautiful and the site so tranquil. The villa itself was perfect and there are still lots of things to do in the area in the future so I'm sure we'll be back in the next year or two.

Absolutely perfect! My second stay at Villa Eleni and it was every bit as delightful as my first. If anyone is looking for a Cretan holiday location, you couldn't do much better. The location is stunning, with the most gorgeous views over the sea and a tranquility that is hard to believe, when
only 10 minutes from the town. The accommodation is spacious and immaculate, with everything one could need. I cannot recommend Villa Eleni highly enough.

Nous voilà de retour à Paris, et nous souhaitons tous les 5 vous remercier pour le séjour que nous avons passé à la villa Eleni.
La maison a une position unique et est allé au-delà de nos espérances. En effet, trouver dans la même maison un télescope et des DVD des studios Aardman est une chose unique.
Les enfants et nous-même avons profité de la piscine qui a bien chauffé avec la bâche prévue à cet effet.
Certes, la piste pour y accéder était en mauvais état, (nous y'avons crevé un pneu à 100m de la maison), mais à nos yeux cela ajoutait au charme de cette maison.
A ce propos, une mention spéciale pour Michael d'Alianthos Agia Galini qui est venu me donner un coup demain pour changer la roue et qui m'a accompagné auprès d'un garagiste qui avait le pneu en stock.
Tellement enchantés par votre maison et ce joli coin de Crête sauvage, nous envisageons déjà d'y retourner. Quand?
On a oublié de vous dire que votre maison a été rebaptisée par notre fils cadet "la Maison du chemin", du fait de cette belle piste fleurie, et traversant des petits torrents.
Notre aîné appelle le gros rocher d'en face "le Rocher Côme". Pourquoi ce nom, ça reste encore un mystère mais ça lui va bien.

We are now back in Paris and all 5 of us wish to thank you for the time that we spent at Villa Eleni.
The villa has a unique position and exceeded our expectations. To find a telescope and Aardman DVDs in the same villa was a one-off.
Both we and the children enjoyed the swimming pool which was well heated by the cover provided.
Certainly the road to get there was in a bad state (we had a puncture 100 metres from the house), but in our eyes that added to the charm of this house.
With regard to this, a special mention for Michael at Alianthos Agia Galini who came to help me change the tyre and who accompanied me to a garage which had the tyre in stock.
We are so delighted by your house and this beautiful corner of wild Crete that we are already thinking of returning. When?
We forgot to tell you that your house was renamed by our younger son the ‘Path House’ on account of the many flowers on the track and crossing the small streams. Our older son called the big rock opposite the ‘Côme Rock’. Why this name, remains a mystery, but it suits it.
(Reply - The winter has been very bad this year and the roads have been badly affected. However the local council normally come and repair around May time, so this should have been solved.)

We safely returned from our trip to Crete last night. We had a lovely week at Villa Eleni. The kids enjoyed the pool (of course) and we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and the view. Thanks for having us.
The house is perfectly situated I think. Also it contains everything one needs. If I could suggest one thing to be make it even more wonderful, I would be to have more shade around the house and on the balcony in the afternoon. We had wonderful weather, and I just kept wondering how you do
manage without more shade in summertime, when it must be really hot. The stone bench is lovely, especially in the evening because it stays nicely warm as the evening gets cooler.
Thanks again, and I will recommend the villa to all my friends!

(Reply - For shade we use the terrace underneath the balcony or use a sun umbrella (there should be two at the house, stored by the stairs) in addition to the partial wooden shade or use an umbrella by the stone bench and table by the pool. The stone bench and table were new last year and we are thinking about ways to provide more shade there. )

Hello Sally,
We arrived back in Canada last night and I have just picked up your email.
Re the villa - it merits many accolades. The restfulness of the setting and the peace if affords is something , we found, quite invaluable. The magnificent view, the absolute quiet, bar the cicadas and the occasional charming clink of sheep bells by day, introduces one to a different world . The villa itself is very comfortably and tastefully appointed and equipped for every need.
The pool - a lovely bonus to cool down on those pretty hot days!. Initially, we found that the distance to Aglia Galleni seemed to be further from the sea than what we had imagined but your description of 3K was accurate. Your directions were easy to follow . We found the villa perfectly positioned for exploring in any direction. From Heraklion,we took a circuitous route , via Aglos Nikoloas and Moklos and then south to Mirtos and along the coast. From the villa it was an easy drive to see Matala and Phaestos to the south. We especially enjoyed Spilli en route to Chania. In any direction, we were overwhelmed by the varying terrain of mountains, olive trees and ocean.
We would highly recommend Villa Eleni and should we ever be so lucky as to revisit Crete, I would not hesitate to request another sojourn at your villa.

Just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had at Villa Eleni. Absolutely loved the location and we had a wonderful hike at Rouvas instead of Samaria - didn't see anyone else all the way up!
We went to a different beach every day - great snorkelling at Agios Pavlos, as you recommended - and we absolutely loved Frangokastello and had a very good lunch at the cafe on the beach right by the castle.
Really liked Gallini too and had two great meals at Onar's, also on your recommendation, and another enormous and delicious two at the ridiculously good value Gold Sun.
Also had a lovely visit to the donkey sanctuary and spent a lot of time looking at geckos, lizards, bats, beech martens, stars and praying mantis each night.
I wanted to ask what eagle it was that flew over the villa each morning? I couldn't identify it.
It was a special occasion for us - the first time I've ever taken my kids abroad and the oldest is 18 this summer! - but if it were something we were able to do regularly I would go back again and again. I really didn't want to leave at all!

Over the years we have been to various Mediterranean and other islands, including Corfu, Kefalonia, Malta, Majorca, and Lanzarote, but never previously to Crete, and never in May. Crete was, in a word, wonderful. I have no idea what it might be like in July and August but in May the temperature was perfect. Warm, verging on nicely hot, but breezy and comfortable. I didn't bother with sunscreen since we were not lolling about on beaches being slow-grilled on gas mark UV-B, and at the end of a week I was nicely warmed, but never scorched.
Villa Eleni is fairly remote. It isn't remote in the sense that the Australian Outback is remote. It is up a dead-end dusty track in a beautiful valley with no neighbours a few minutes out of Agia Galini. Nobody walks past. Nobody looks into the garden or the pool. No cars go past the end of the drive. There is no aircraft noise, and you are far enough from the beach to hear the waves crashing on anything. The villa was well equipped and rather beautiful. The pool is perfect for cooling off after a bit of kindle-reading and sunbathing. Even in May the unheated pool was deliciously warm. It is as close to perfect peace as you could possibly imagine.
We have a bit of a policy regarding holidays. We never go to the same place twice. The world is a big place and there is always something else that has to be seen, but I am afraid the policy is going to be cancelled. Villa Eleni, we will be back.

Nous avons eu beaucoup de mal à quitter la Crète et votre magnifique villa pour rentrer chez nous. Fanny, la plus petite des 2 filles, a même versé quelques larmes en partant !!! Nous avons vraiment passé une superbe semaine dans votre villa : le décor grandiose, le calme royal à peine pertubé par les oiseaux et les moutons. Nous avons trouvé tout ce qu'il nous fallait à la villa (merci pour les petites provisions et le Raki local!) et nous avons bien profité de la piscine: grâce à la bâche l'eau était tout à fait agréable. Beaucoup de choses à découvrir aussi dans les environs et le petit port d'Aghia Galini est fort sympathique.

It was very hard for us to leave Crete and your magnificent villa to go home. Fanny, our younger daughter, even shed a few tears on leaving!!! We really had a superb week in your villa: the grandiose scenery, the peace only disturbed by the birds and the sheep. We found everything we needed in the villa (thank you for the small groceries and the local raki!) and we were able to make good use of the swimming pool: thanks to the cover the water was very nice. Lots of things to discover in the surrounding area and the little port of Agia Galini is very lovely.

Thank you for the return of our security deposit.
We really loved our stay at Villa Eleni. The location was just what we hoped for, and the surroundings and views were simply amazing. We really loved the south coast of Crete as well.
We found several secluded coves and small beaches where we could be totally alone,
did several fantastic road trips around in the mountains, and had lots of really good meals everywhere.
We will definitely like to come back another year.

We have just returned from two weeks at the Villa Eleni and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The villa is well equipped with all the items you would need to make the stay just so.
The village nearby offers all the basic amenities you would need, bank, supermarkets, restaurants etc, and the villa is set on the side of a hill with great views over the landscape all the way to the sea.
The villa is well signposted and easy to find when you receive the full directions from Martin and Sally, it is a great place to stay, really peaceful and very relaxing and as for the view it is something you never get tired of looking at.
The pool is great and was always warm enough to swim in even though it is only a solar heated pool.
I would recommend staying there as it a very tranquil place to stay, and are looking forward to going back again.

What a fabulous, peaceful place Villa Eleni is!! ...
...The three of us would like to thank you for allowing us to use your excellent villa, we had the quietest most peaceful 14 days holiday we have ever had. From the first night laid on the sunbeds watching the shooting stars and the satellites passing across a totally pollution free sky thro' to being awoken from a mid afternoon snooze by the eagles (or as a local told us buzzards!) screeching in the sky. This two weeks was what we all needed and was thoroughly enjoyed. But, back to reality and work so this is the first opportunity I have had to contact you.

Dear Sally,
We just got back from Crete.
We had a very relaxing time in Villa Eleni. The villa is very thoughtfully equipped and nicely furnished and most of all in a lovely landscape. I wished I had that view from my kitchen or dining table here...
We went to Triopetra, Plakias and to Moni Preveli and so other places. The nicest walk was from Moni Odigitrias to the sea. In Agia Galini we like the little fish taverna "Faros" best, but we also found "Onar" a friendly place with good food.
We had an interesting experience one night when a little owl was stuck in the chimney. We freed it after we had managed to open the cover in the chimney which Mary had explained over the phone...
I don't know when I will go back to Crete the next time, but Villa Eleni is definitely on my list for good places!
So thanks very much - also for reacting so promptly and sending Mary around again.

What a lovely villa you have designed and built here on the hillside. Works so well for living upstairs and with the wide balcony; yet even better with the terrace off the main bedroom. A splendid and secluded location. We have had a most fantastic stay, but all too short. Thank you for organising everything so nicely for us. The weather has been wonderful and as a result, were able to enjoy the pool. I hope we might get the opportunity of returning. Thank you for everything once again.

Hi there!
I wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed your comfortable and beautiful home. I cannot begin to describe how much pleasure we got from the exceptional view and scenery. Whether by the poolside, or on one of the terraces or looking out the windows, the view is always breathtaking - we spent most of our time just staring!!
We explored all of the local beaches (I met Elvira, the German woman married to the shepherd, who has lounge chairs and umbrellas at the next beach over from Nikos tavern). We also went to the three beaches at agios pavlos and followed many of your suggestions for day trips and restaurants. Thank you for being so thorough.
As my husband and daughter went sailing in Mirtos the week before, we didn't end up calling the sail boat people you referred us to - it will have to be for another trip...
I also wanted you to know that Mary is wonderful. She was available whenever needed and was just lovely!

ps. just had to mention, my 5 year old son learned to swim without "wings" in YOUR pool - as he was in it every waking moment that we were at the house, I think he will remember your pool for many years to come!

Just a quick note to say thank you for letting us share your fabulous villa last week. We had a very relaxing holiday, weather was good apart from rain on one day.
The villa is so comfortable and well equipped (and with those fantastic views) we didn't go far, just lazed about in and out of the pool with short trips for dinner in the evenings.
As we were so lazy we used your recommendations for restaurants, and then once we had been to Onars on the first evening we kept going back as it was so nice, food was good and the owner was so welcoming.
Just wanted to let you both know what a good time we had.

Visited for a short break in March/April 09. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The house was wonderful and the views breathtaking. The hillsides were covered in flowers - yellow daisies and buttercups and purple orchids. Weather was very mixed with two days rain, but three sunny. Arrived in the middle of a powercut (!) but the villa has a back up generator so that was fine. Glad we had central heating as the nights in March are quite cold.
Will definitely come back soon.

Stayed in July 08. Incredible! So peaceful! Didn't want to go home to blighty.
